There are also numerous lakes located throughout this terrain including Crater Lake near Mount Mc Loughlin formed thousands of years ago out of collapsed ancient volcano caldera, Owyhee Reservoir at the Idaho border built for irrigation purposes, Lost Creek Reservoir in Umpqua National Forest built for recreational purposes. Finally, there are several glaciers around Mt Hood summit like Eliot Glacier or Core Glacier.
The climate zone of Oregon varies greatly depending on local topography with mild maritime climate prevailing over western parts while continental climate dominates eastern parts receiving more cold spells during the winter season. Rainfall increases significantly further away from coastlines while summer temperatures become more extreme particularly further east where higher altitudes add additional chilliness, especially during winter months when snowfall becomes heavier especially up North where temperatures struggle to stay above freezing levels even during summer months.
